While last season saw the drama follow the love story of the eldest Bridgerton daughter Daphne, the second instalment follows the eldest sibling, Anthony.
In one passionate moment, Anthony is seen to profess his feelings as he utters the line: “You are the bane of my existence.” And it has left Bridgerton fans swooning on social media.
As fans share their reactions to the line on social media, some have even compared it to another iconic line from the first season.

A look at Anthony Bridgerton’s ‘You are the bane of my existence’ line
While Anthony Bridgerton is on a quest for a wife this season, he soon gets tangled in a love triangle with Sharma sisters Edwina and Kate.
Edwina, who is the season’s diamond, and Anthony start courting. However, tensions build amid the presence of Edwina’s older sister, Kate.
Despite the dislike between Anthony and Kate being obvious, feelings of hate soon transform into love. This confusion is evident in Anthony’s iconic line in episode 5: “You are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires.”
By using the word ‘bane’, which means to ‘cause annoyance or trouble’, Anthony is essentially saying that while he and Kate have had their differences, he can’t get her out of his head.

Others compare it to iconic season 1 line
Audiences are bound to draw comparisons between the two seasons following the success of the first series, which at the time became Netflix’s most-watched TV series.
Fans may remember in season 1 the iconic “I burn for you” line, which featured in a similarly passionate scene between Simon Basset, aka the duke of Hastings, and eldest Bridgerton daughter Daphne.
The line coincidentally also featured in the fifth episode of the season as Daphne and the duke were professing their feelings to one another.
Some fans have linked the line to Anthony’s “you are the bane of my existence” as they suggest the season 2 line is better:
